Il Papa ha poi parlato durante l'Angelus della crisi in Medio Oriente, riferendosi ai recenti incidenti a Gerusalemme e tornando a lanciare un appello perché i "responsabili" delle sorti di quella città "intraprendano con coraggio la via della pace e la seguano con perserveranza". "In questo momento - ha detto - il nostro pensiero e il nostro cuore si dirigono in modo particolare a Gerusalemme, dove il mistero pasquale si è compiuto. Sono profondamente addolorato per i recenti contrasti e per le tensioni verificatisi ancora una volta in quella città, che è patria spirituale di cristiani, ebrei e musulmani, profezia e promessa di quell'universale riconciliazione che Dio desidera per tutta la famiglia umana". "La pace - ha aggiunto - è un dono che Dio affida alla responsabilità umana, affinché lo coltivi attraverso il dialogo e il rispetto dei diritti di tutti, la riconciliazione e il perdono. Preghiamo, quindi - ha concluso - perché i responsabili delle sorti di Gerusalemme intraprendano con coraggio la via della pace e la seguano con perseveranza".

Texan accused of disabling 100 cars over internet
A man fired from a Texas auto dealership used an internet service to remotely disable ignitions and set off car horns of more than 100 vehicles sold at his old workplace, police said yesterday.
Austin police arrested Omar Ramos-Lopez, 20, yesterday, charging him with felony breach of computer security.
Ramos-Lopez used a former colleague's password to deactivate starters and set off car horns, police said. Several car owners said they had to call tow trucks and were left stranded at work or home.

Great Britain Stars in Its Own Greek Tragedy
For the darkest hours in the fight against Adolf Hitler, the British Ministry of Information -- which existed for the duration of World War II -- had set aside a special poster. Intended to bring calm to the home front, it depicted the crown of King George VI against a red background, with the words "Keep Calm and Carry On" printed beneath the image.
The situation never became sufficiently desperate to justify using the poster, and the millions of copies that had been printed were stored away unused. Ten years ago, a bookseller discovered a single copy and hung it up in his shop. That may well have been the end of the poster's career, but then the country was suddenly faced with multiple crises: terrorist attacks, a banking debacle and, finally, the economic and credit crisis.
The bright-red poster now hangs in the offices of directors and members of parliament, in soldiers' barracks and student dormitories. Entire ministries are using it to boost morale, and framed versions of the posters are even said to grace the walls of No. 10 Downing Street and Buckingham Palace.

God Didn't Need A Beginning

We've all asked the question from the age of 2. Why did the universe have a beginning but not God? If God didn't have a beginning why should the universe have a beginning. Couldn't the universe just have always existed? Why a need for God?
The answer is found in understanding why the universe had to have a beginning. Science supports Einstein's claim that the universe is a closed system. That means it has finite energy. Even though energy cannot be created or destroyed (by any natural processes), over time the useful energy in the universe becomes more and more useless. This is known in science as the Second Law of Thermodynamics. If the universe were eternal then all of the energy would have become totally useless by now and I wouldn't be writing this article and you wouldn't be reading it either!

This proves, as mentioned earlier, that the universe could not be eternal or otherwise it would have long ago reached this point of uniform energy decay or level.

All of this simply supports the belief that an intelligent power outside of nature and the universe was responsible for its origin and order.

Can You Trust Your Computer?
Who should your computer take its orders from? Most people think their computers should obey them, not obey someone else. With a plan they call “trusted computing”, large media corporations (including the movie companies and record companies), together with computer companies such as Microsoft and Intel, are planning to make your computer obey them instead of you. (Microsoft's version of this scheme is called “Palladium”.) Proprietary programs have included malicious features before, but this plan would make it universal.
'Europeans Shouldn't Be Pointing Their Fingers at Washington'
The center-right Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung writes:
"Of course European politicians have the same right as executives at EADS and Northrop Grumman to accuse politicians in Washington of an unfair bidding process. Some countries have, in fact, shown a preference for the EADS/Northrop aircraft over Boeing's model. But Boeing's tanker isn't so bad that its purchase would weaken the American military. The aircraft may even have other advantages -- like its modern cockpit and the ability to conduct tanking in an entirely manual manner, which could be advantageous in a combat situation. The EADS tanker can hold more fuel, more cargo and more passengers. But the same is true of the American C-17A transport plane and the Russian Antonov An-70. Europe could have purchased those aircraft, but instead decided to develop its own expensive and complex military transport plane. The original plan was also to use American Pratt & Whitney engines on the A400M -- in the end, owing to political considerations, they had to be developed in Europe."
"The defense industry is far from being a normal business … but that should change. Today's practices cost taxpayers a lot of money and also lead to a situation in which armies seldom get the best products for their money -- up to and including toilet paper. But for Europeans to insinuate that everything about the Americans' defense bidding processes is particularly terrible, is hypocritical and nothing more than a political ritual."
The Financial Times Deutschland concurs that Europe is equally guilty of protecting its defense industries, writing:
"The Europeans shouldn't be pointing their fingers at Washington. Instead they should be asking all participants what kind of economic and political damage their protectionist games are causing. … Paradoxically, the loss of the US contract could be good news for Airbus investors. A fixed fee had been set for each aircraft and, as the cost overruns with the European A400M military transport aircraft have shown, fixed pricing can present a huge risk. Besides, EADS already has enough major risks on its hands. There are still production problems with the A380 jumbo jet. And the company still needs to develop its A350 widebody model. Finally, the A400M disaster has blown a huge hole in the company's budget. EADS and Airbus have both shown in recent years that the companies have trouble completing major projects. Instead of jumping into a new adventure, the company should get a handle on its existing problems."
