Microsoft Files Antitrust Complaint Against Google in Europe

...
Brussels - Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) has submitted an antitrust complaint against Google (NASD: GOOG) to the European Commission, alleging among other things that the search giant has limited competitors' access to its YouTube property. "Unfortunately, Google has engaged in a broadening pattern of walling off access to content and data that competitors need to provide search results to consumers and to attract advertisers," Brad Smith, Microsoft senior vice president and general counsel, wrote in a post on the company's TechNet blog.

Unlike competition, U.S. values profits over jobs
...
During recession other industrialized nations grew employment while America relied on layoffs and productivity

...
Its economy is growing faster than theirs but creating far fewer jobs.
The reason is U.S. workers have become so productive that it's harder for anyone without a job to get one.
...
Companies are producing and profiting more than when the recession began, despite fewer workers. They're hiring again, but not fast enough to replace most of the 7.5 million jobs lost since the recession began.
...
'Weeding out of the weakest workers'
Panicked by the 2008 financial crisis and deepening recession, U.S. employers cut jobs pitilessly. They slashed an average of 780,000 jobs a month in the January-March quarter of 2009.

"My sense is there was much more weeding out of the weakest workers — the ones they didn't want," says Harvard economist Kenneth Rogoff.

Quegli storici dalla parte del Papa-Re

...

American Dream

...
Ownby (1999) identifies four American dreams that the new consumer culture addressed. The first was the "Dream of Abundance," offering a cornucopia of material goods to all Americans, making them proud to be the richest society on earth. The second was the "Dream of a Democracy of Goods," whereby everyone had access to the same products regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, or class, thereby challenging the aristocratic norms of the rest of the world whereby only the rich or well-connected are granted access to luxury. The "Dream of Freedom of Choice," with its ever expanding variety of good allowed people to fashion their own particular life style. Finally, the "Dream of Novelty," in which ever-changing fashions, new models, and unexpected new products broadened the consumer experience in terms of purchasing skills and awareness of the market, and challenged the conservatism of traditional society and culture, and even politics.
...
has also been blamed for over-inflated expectations
...
American wealth structure still perpetuates racial and class inequalities
...
"the idea of the US as ‘the land of opportunity’ persists; and clearly seems misplaced."
...
George Carlin famously wrote the joke "it's called the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it. Carlin pointed to "the big wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions" as having a greater influence than an individual's choice.
...
Many counter-culture films of the 1960s and 1970s ridiculed the traditional quest for the American Dream. For example Easy Rider (1969), written by Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, and Terry Southern, shows the characters making a pilgrimage in search of "the true America" in terms of the hippie movement, drug use, and communal lifestyles.
...
The American dream regarding home ownership has been emulated in Europe.
...

... there are several things where the American "dream" is just a dream ...
... starting with the profit cow of medicine and monetary price on human organs ...
... continuing with governments and corporations testing mass murder technology on citizens ...
... ending with theories of plausible denial ...
... where everybody is your enemy ...
... when you don't have friends but only usury interest ...
... and you are a nation under a black god, "petroleum" ...

... professor Galtung said first "collapse" by 2024 ...
... then after GW presidency, changed the date to 2020 :)...
... he is an optimist ...
... reverse the reasoning a minute and think about it ...
... no petroleum ...
... two choices for out of area operation ...
... you starve the world people to make bio fuel ...
... and go fight the people starving somewhere ten thousand miles away ...
... how many millions you want to kill of famine in America ? ...
... how many wars you can keep open ? 1,2,3,4,5 ? ...
... how are you planning of feeding south America in the time being ? ...
... because otherwise the head cutters may cross the border and barbecue you ...
... wall street can print infinite money, but you can not print petroleum and food ...

... the next step is, with no fuel for the military ...
... who is going to protect supply routes ? ...
... who is going to save US bases in the middle of nowhere around the planet ? ...
... now the military will be needed to protect government, bankers and churches ? ...
... from hungry people "of their own" ? ...
... in change of what ? green towelette papers with pictures of historical figures ?
... how much was worth money on the sinking titanic ? ...

... at the end it seems that the only dream that may remain ...
... probably the most "realistic" of all ...
... is the hippie communal lifestyle, for which there won't be other alternatives ...

... and as far as concerns the home ownership story ...
... wall street sponsored "suburbia" has been defined ...
... "the greater miss-allocation of resources in the history of humanity" ...
... but banks and oil companies made a few bucks in the process ...
... the countries that follow the American model of suburbia home ownership ...
... and private transportation ...
... will make their people and their country bankrupt ...

...

... everywhere else as well ...
... proving in the facts the hypocrisy of the western christian monetary market model ...
... that introduced democracy in education only to destroy public education ...
... with the purpose of eliminating opportunities for the dissenting segments of the population ...
... towards the raise to power of the "Christos-cleptocracy" model of the "new world order" ...
... "for profit education" ...

... the "family welfare" ...
... an easy way to blame the victims to ignore the arrogance of the centers of power ...
... the same hypocrites that preach unrestrained foolish reproduction ...
... the same plutocracy that steals from the poor to give to the Christos-cleptocrats ...
... the same hypocrites that benefit from the tits of the holy cow of a puppet regime ...
... and pass along the cost of this holy theater fraud to the taxpayer ...

... true, 16 years old should be able to have part time jobs ...
... 18 years old should be able to move out of home ...
... all should be able to afford the best education they can achieve ...
... for their objective capabilities ...
... but in the facts it is never going to happen in Italy ...
... as long as the Vatican does not move some place else ...
... it is a convenient arrangement for the "morals" of the bigot state at limited sovereignty ...
... the joke over why was determined that the Christ must have been Italian seems appropriate ...
... nowhere else children think their mother is a virgin ...
... nowhere else mothers think their children are gods ...
... and nowhere else children stay home until 33 ...
:)

... doubt it may happen by choice ...
... it may just happen by force ...
... as soon as the "reality" of peak everything ...
... brings in economic collapse, famine, riots and urban warfare ...
... there won't be too many public gifts in a tribal society ...
... there won't be too many universities in a tribal society ...
... and the transition, just as in the case of energy conversion ...
... could be ordered and scientific ...
... but since the privileges of the "status quo" are by their admission ...
... "not negotiable" ...
... it will have to be turbulent ...
... too bad, because there is no appeal in tribunals of war ...
... for the banditry protected by the forgivers of the sinners ...

IMF Prepares For "Threat To International Monetary System"

...
Back in April 2010, before Waddell and Reed sold a few shares of ES, effectively destroying the market on news that Europe was insolvent
...
just a month later after Greece, then Ireland, then Portgual, and soon Spain, Italy, Belgium, and pretty much all other European countries would topple like dominoes tethered together by a flawed monetary regime
...
Activating access to the funding pool could provide assurance to the market of the IMF's ability to backstop any major funding crisis amid ongoing fears that Europe's sovereign debt woes will worsen.
...

... all this would have not happened ...
... if there were not certain "imbeciles" in the EU ...
... refusing to create unified titles of debt for the whole community ...
... but since some of the above "efficient idiots" puppets of wall street ...
... keep the financial power in Europe ...
... here we are ...

"We must hang together, gentlemen...else, we shall most assuredly hang separately."
Benjamin Franklin stated in a similar circumstance

"We learn from history that we learn nothing from history."
George Bernard Shaw.

After Japan's quake and tsunami, freezing weather threatens relief efforts

Many of those hit by the disaster lack blankets, food and fuel, raising fears of a quiet but deadly humanitarian crisis

...
Freezing winds, hail storms and thick snow
...
not equipped for the care and feeding of large numbers of people
...
the first dispatch of reserve personnel since the self-defence forces were established during 1954. They join 80,000 troops, firefighters and emergency workers in the disaster area.
...
The main problem is a lack of fuel.
...
food trucks and rubbish collection vans remain parked at their depots because they do not have enough fuel.
...
Supermarkets and convenience stores across the north-east first sold out of jerry cans as queues lengthened at petrol stations, then they ran out of batteries when the government announced plans for rolling power cuts.
...
Panic buying and hoarding are occurring in large parts of Japan and beyond. As far away as Hong Kong, shoppers have reportedly been buying up Japanese milk powder in case future supplies are contaminated by radiation.
...
adequate scale. Some needed medicine. Others were desperate for sanitary wear. Many were cold because they lacked blankets and stoves. All were uncomfortable and unhappy about the lack of running water which meant they were having to relieve themselves in plastic bags.
...
"I eat one rice ball a day. Of course, I am hungry, but when I think what the other citizens have been through, it's nothing.
...
"What we urgently need now is fuel, heavy and light oil, water and food. More than anything else, we need fuel because we can't do anything without it. We can't stay warm or work the water pumps,"
...
They also feel they have been treated badly by people from outside the affected areas: they hear people in Tokyo are panic buying whereas people in the affected areas have nothing to buy.
...

... here we see a long list of things we have "forgotten" since childhood ...
... we kept old ugly blankets nobody used, just in case, this an example of the case ...
... work and schools cafeterias are not just a "socialist solution" ...
... they are also a civilian protection resource, lets prevent politics from killing us ...
... have we updated regulations for mass recall of military reserve since WWII ? ...
... "fuel", yup, that was "really" unexpected, have a pony and a bicycle ready ...
... "efficiency", barges and "simple" railroad versus the myth of "private transport" ...
... I keep thinking humanity is lacking some brain wheels ...
... since instead of 300 miles per gallon recumbent and hovercraft we build "cars" ...
... but don't mind, I'm just joking, maybe ...
... until the age of cannibals at the local gas station may show otherwise ...
... rubbish collection, second war stoves and garbage burners anybody ? ...
... yes, they pollute, but in emergency unburied frozen dead pollute much more ...
... hoarding, another "virtue" of the monetary system ...
... one more reason to move to a cashless society based on rationing cards ...
... what have we done since the oil crises of 1974 to implement rationing cards ? ...
... what about "portable" and "infrastructure" solar and wind energy ? ...
... oh, forgot we have to fill the pockets of wall street oil-kristo-bankers lobby ...
... sanitary wear, where are the fertilizing bags ? ...
... emergency food, water, thermal cloth, medications, what about air delivery ? ...
... are civilian protection agencies capable of operating "in total absence" of mineral fuels ? ...
... where are the civilian protection agencies airships delivering supplies ? ...
... and what about water ? ...
... nuclear companies that can not even solve "their" problem of water ? ...
... wait a minute, does anybody here can see a problem ? ...

Firefox 4 thumps IE9 in first day download contest
Unlike Microsoft's IE9, Firefox runs on Windows XP, still the world's most popular OS

Users downloaded nearly 7 million copies of the new Firefox 4 in the 24 hours since its launch yesterday, Mozilla's running tally claimed.

That number was almost triple the 2.4 million copies of Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) that Microsoft claimed were downloaded in its browser's first day of availability last week.

Mozilla officially launched Firefox 4 Tuesday at around 10:00 a.m. EDT, bagging an even million in the first three hours. According to Mozilla's real-time calculator, about 6.5 million copies of Firefox 4 had been downloaded by 10:00 a.m. Wednesday.

... well, so far it looks chrome is still the fastest ...
... firefox4 is now responding in a more similar way to other browsers ...
... explorer is fast but should be setup to use google in the first place ...

... bing is a joke of a search engine, it has hard time even finding itself :) ...
... try to google the word "bing", you get 258 million hits ...
... but if you do it with bing you get only 5 million hits ...

... finally developers extensions on firefox are "way" above all the others ...
... so my recipe is: ...
... develop with firefox ...
... read the news with chrome ...
... and test your application display on explorer, just in case ...

Scientists warn of link between dangerous new pathogen and Monsanto’s Roundup

A plant pathologist experienced in protecting against biological warfare recently warned the USDA of a new, self-replicating, micro-fungal virus-sized organism which may be causing spontaneous abortions in livestock, sudden death syndrome in Monsanto’s Roundup Ready soy, and wilt in Monsanto’s RR corn.

Dr. Don M. Huber, who coordinates the Emergent Diseases and Pathogens committee of the American Phytopathological Society, as part of the USDA National Plant Disease Recovery System, warned Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack that this pathogen threatens the US food and feed supply and can lead to the collapse of the US corn and soy export markets. Likewise, deregulation of GE alfalfa “could be a calamity,” he noted in his letter (reproduced in full below).
