Obama si butta a destra per evitare l’ umiliazione

Il New York Times da giorni lo fa a fette: il giornale che l’aveva supportato anche nei momenti peggiori ieri titolava così: «Con un bilancio che pende a destra Obama allarga la spaccatura nel suo partito: a rischio nel 2012 i voti liberal». L’accusano di essere stato troppo arrendevole nei confronti della destra repubblicana. E anche di essere finito «a parlare come loro, a pensare come loro». Dicono, o fanno dire, di aver già dovuto accettare troppe cose poco di sinistra: l’aumento delle truppe in Afghanistan, la conferma dei tagli alle tasse ai più ricchi dell’era Bush e la mancata promessa della chiusura di Guantanamo.

La più grande potenza mondiale che finisce a non poter pagare gli stipendi pubblici e le pensioni per un cavillo normativo e una battaglia ideologica non porterebbe né l’uno, né l’altra, ma non si dica. Perché per gli intellettuali, i giornali e la base liberal far passare qualcosa che sia anche solo vagamente repubblicano è peggio di qualunque sciagura.
