Professor: Rejection of Pope is fear of dialogue between faith and reason

...
"This is just a part of the secularist culture that has no argument, so it demonizes, it does not argue as a real secular culture, but creates monsters." Professor Giorgio Israel
...
In an article published by L'Osservatore Romano, Israel, who is also a professor of mathematics at La Sapienza, argues that the protest against the Pope's scheduled speech "is particularly surprising since Italian universities are supposed to be places open to any kind of position, and it makes no sense that only the Pope is denied access."
...
In other words, the Pope's remarks at that time "were a clear defense of Galilean rationality against the skepticism and relativism of our postmodern cultureā€, wrote Israel.
...
"But I am afraid that here intellectual rigor has very little to do [with their motivations] and that the intention is to build a barrier at any cost," especially when considering that some of the signers of the letter against the Pope "have never expressed a word of criticism against Islamic fundamentalism or against those denying the Shoah."
...

... just read the article about genius and pathology ...
... all it can not be disputed, is the fact that historically ...
... science had as many madmen as religion ...
... Moniz is the mother of all madnesses ...
... and revisionism is as popular in science as in religion ...

... given the above and given the fact that in the middle is the virtue ...
... nobody disputes the social importance of some basic spiritual principles ...
... but at the bottom line, as george carlin said in a humorous way ...
... a condensed version of the commandments would be sufficient ...
... all the rest is "politics" ...
... to perpetuate the "big church incorporated" world domination agenda ...

... nothing can be proven neither about "holy" scriptures holiness ...
... that could make them something more than mythology or at the best history ...
... of primitive societies ...
... one thing it can be said about scriptures ...
... is that they are significant work of art of their times ...
... but art has to remain art and science has to remain science ...
... otherwise we would be all drunk at the church of Baudelaire ...
... or venerating a piston at the church of technology ...

... over the friction ...
... it can only be stated that as usual the truth is somewhere in between ...
... from one side is a church that wants to be an absolute monarchy ...
... and a financial corporation with ambitions of manipulation of planetary politics ...
... on the other there is the rhetoric of an economic theory ...
... that mainstream opinion classifies as science ...
... but lacks scientific method because of conflict of interest ...
... at the bottom line the friction represents the clash of two dogmas ...
... and the irony is in the fact that they perpetuate each other ...
... in useless disputes ...

... now in a perfect world of intellectual honesty ...
... both sides could have put away their rhetoric ...
... and reached a compromise ...
... but neither is willing to compromise ...

... there may be somewhere a parallel universe ...
... where the academics recognize that higher knowledge ...
... is the discovery of the consciousness of a higher degree of ignorance ...
... and where the religious world recognizes ...
... that their reason to exist is in the being servants of the servants ...
... a parallel universe where popes live and act like saint francis ...
... and scientists live and act like Lord Carnarvon ...
... and in such universe probably crimes against humanity would not exist ...

... what surely plays less in favor of organized religion however ...
... is their historical track record ...
... anybody with such historical records should be kept ...
... at least for a couple of centuries "on probation" ...
... to establish the honesty of motivation of such institutions ...
... but nevertheless the same can be said of many other pseudo-sciences ...
... such as economics and many branches of the medical field ...

amon
