The West needs France to rejoin Nato

Is the time now right for France to make a move that can reshape world geopolitics by deciding to rejoin Nato? The move seems counter-intuitive.

General de Gaulle quit the military structure of Nato in 1966 though France remains a member of the political treaty organisation.

De Gaulle did so to mark French independence and sovereign control over its military. He satisfied the anti-American Left and the nationalist Right in France who objected to any supranational involvement in military matters.

In different ways this line has been supported by all de Gaulle's successors. But it is hard to see how a sovereign, French-alone geopolitics has helped advance French national interests or made the world safer.

... the only thing that has prevented america and russia from attacking europe ...
... has been mutual assured distruction ...
... General De Gaulle was a patriot ...
... europe safety depends on his vision ...
... he was the only one that saw back then what was coming ...
... changing this would be the ultimate madness of europe ...
... and the end of europe ...

... if something has to be done in nato ...
... is let america fight and pay on its own ...
... for the seven sisters oil invasions and wars ...

... the war on terror is a joke ...
... why did not they do such thing when the strategy of terror ...
... was making europe bleed ? ...
... maybe because they were paying for creating that terror ? ...
... and what makes anybody in europe think ...
... that this terror is any different ...
... and is not paid for, from wall street ...
... to permit consolidation of the seven sisters oil business ? ...
